PT design review, optimisation and full PT packages in Qatar
Freelance post-tensioned slab design, tendon layouts and calculations for Qatar buildings, to ACI 318 or Eurocode 2 and the QCS 2024 specification, from a Dubai-based PT design team with previous experience in Qatar.
PT slab design for Doha, from an engineer who has worked there.
Our team has previous post-tension design experience in Qatar. Qatar PT practice is part of our background.
We design post-tensioned flat slabs, banded-beam floors, podium decks and transfer slabs for residential, commercial and mixed-use buildings in Doha, Lusail, Al Wakrah and across Qatar. The work is delivered remotely from Dubai as the PT design partner to the Qatar consultant of record or to the post-tensioning specialist contractor. Calculations and drawings are prepared for their review and submission.

Designing to the code, building to QCS.
In Qatar the design code and the construction specification are separate documents. A PT design has to satisfy both.
Design code: the consultant’s choice
Structural design in Qatar is done to the international code the consultant adopts, most often ACI 318 or BS EN 1992 (Eurocode 2), with BS 8110 still found on some projects. We design in whichever the project uses. For Eurocode-based PT floors we use Concrete Society TR43 as the design guide, alongside EN 1992-1-1.
QCS 2024 for execution
The Qatar Construction Specifications, QCS 2024 (QS 27:2024), replaced QCS 2014 in March 2024. Section 5 (Concrete), Part 18 covers prestressed concrete: materials and equipment, handling and storage, the stressing operation, grouting and the contractor’s submittals. Our drawings and stressing schedules are written so the specialist contractor can demonstrate compliance: clear elongation acceptance criteria, a stressing sequence, and grouting requirements for bonded tendons.
Exposure and durability
Coastal sites, high groundwater and aggressive ground are common in Qatar. Cover, tendon corrosion protection and, for unbonded tendons in aggressive environments, an encapsulated system are fixed at scheme stage, because cover changes the drape and with it the prestress you can use.
Restraint and long floor plates
Podium and car-park floors are often large and stiffly restrained by cores and basement walls. We model the restraint, place pour strips, and keep average precompression in the useful range rather than pushing it up and buying shortening cracks.
Method and deliverables: post-tension slab design and PT shop drawings. If a design already exists, a PT design review may be the faster route.
How a Qatar PT job runs remotely.
The same sequence we use in Dubai, with coordination by video call, WhatsApp and email.

Architectural set, design code, exposure, PT system and programme.
Scheme
Slab type, thickness and prestress level, compared against RC where useful.
Design
Full model, with checks at transfer and service, punching, deflection and crack control.
Drawings
Tendon layouts, profiles, details and stressing schedules in your format.
Submission
Calculation report for the consultant of record, plus comment replies.
Site
RFIs, stressing record review and revisions, all handled remotely.
Questions we are asked about this.
Do you have Qatar experience?
Yes. Our team has previous PT design experience in Qatar and works to QCS and ACI 318.
Who submits the design in Qatar?
The locally registered consultant of record; we prepare the PT design and support their submission.
Which codes apply?
The consultant's specification and QCS, with PT slabs commonly designed to ACI 318 and PTI guidance.
Send the drawings. Get an answer from our engineers.
WhatsApp or email the architectural or structural set, the location and what you need. The reply comes from the engineers who will do the work, with a proposed scope and programme.
